Calculations to Quadtone

This method doesn’t work on every image, but it’s another tool in the ‘convert to gray scale’ toolbox.

Open color image

Select Image->Calculations

Highlighted in red are the 4 fields generally used in this conversion

A good starting place is Blue as source one, Red as source 2, Multiply as method and 75% as Opacity; Notice the green shows where the destination will be... we're going to send it to a new channel

On the channels Palette, note only the new alpha layer is selected

Convert to greyscale

You’re left with just one channel

(optional) Select duotone

Selec type (quadtone) then load your preferred tone set — note that you may have to hunt around on your drive, CS3 opens the directory in the *WRONG PLACE* for the defaults when it first installs.

Set it back to RGB mode

Done!
